Fujifilm X-T2 with cracked rear LCD screen before replacement

Symptoms

  • Fujifilm X-T2 screen cracked after a drop
  • X-T2 LCD black but viewfinder still works
  • hole or crack visible in the rear display
  • screen stays black, no menu or live view
  • camera shoots normally but display shows nothing

A cracked or dead rear display after a fall is one of the most searched Fujifilm X-T2 problems, and a Fujifilm X-T2 screen replacement is the fix. If your X-T2's LCD is smashed or stays black while the camera itself keeps shooting, the display can be replaced at a fixed price of €150 — diagnosis free.

The symptoms

Whether the screen failed after an impact or simply died, the picture is usually the same:

  • A visible crack, hole or shattered area in the rear LCD after a knock or fall.
  • The display stays completely black: no menus, no playback, no live view.
  • The electronic viewfinder still works normally — you can compose, focus and shoot.
  • The camera reads every command and keeps saving photos as if nothing happened.

That last point is the key diagnostic clue: a camera that behaves normally apart from the screen almost always has an LCD fault, not a deeper electronic one.

What causes it

The rear LCD is the most exposed component on the camera. In the repair we document here, our customer fell while photographing in the mountains with the X-T2 hanging from her neck; the camera landed on a rock, punching a visible hole in the display. From that moment the screen stayed black. Impacts like this typically destroy the LCD panel itself while leaving the rest of the camera untouched — but not always. When a screen stops working, the fault is not necessarily just the display: the same symptom can also come from the mainboard, which is why a proper diagnosis comes first.

Can you fix it yourself?

There is one useful check you can do at home: turn the camera on and use the viewfinder. If the EVF works, the camera reads commands and shoots, the damage is very likely confined to the LCD — exactly what our customer verified before contacting us, which let her finish her shoot through the viewfinder. Beyond that, there is nothing to try: a physically broken panel cannot be revived by resets or battery pulls, and replacing it means opening the body and handling fragile ribbon connectors. We do not recommend attempting it yourself.

How we repair it

Our customer shipped us her X-T2 with the punctured display. Thanks to their experience, our technicians quickly confirmed the problem was exclusively the LCD: the camera functioned and read all commands, which ruled out the mainboard. After running the full set of tests and general checks, they replaced the display completely with a new LCD panel and reassembled the camera.

The X-T2 went back to working exactly as it did before the accident — perfect in the viewfinder and, above all, in live view again. As with every Fujifilm repair we carry out, the job included a general function check of the whole camera before it was returned. Our customer went straight back to the mountains to continue shooting — a little more carefully this time.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to replace a Fujifilm X-T2 screen?

We replace the complete rear LCD for a fixed €150. Sensor cleaning and a full function check are included, and the repair carries a 6-month warranty.

My X-T2 screen is black but the viewfinder works — is the camera dead?

No. If the EVF works and the camera reads all commands and shoots, the mainboard is fine and the fault is confined to the LCD panel. A display replacement restores it fully.

Could a black screen on the X-T2 be the mainboard rather than the LCD?

It can be — a dead screen is not always just the display. That is why we test the camera thoroughly before replacing anything. Diagnosis is free, and you only pay the fixed price for the repair that is actually needed.

Can I keep using my X-T2 with a broken screen?

Yes, through the viewfinder — the customer in our case study finished her shoot that way. But you lose menus, playback and live view, and an open crack can let dust and moisture into the body, so it should be repaired promptly.

Is the Fujifilm X-T2 worth repairing in 2026?

Yes. The X-T2 remains a very capable camera, and a fixed €150 screen replacement costs far less than replacing the body — and preserves its resale value.
